Hyperbaric oxygen therapy appointments are commonly divided between two groups: – Medically approved diagnoses are those which can be filed with insurance, and – Off-label diagnoses cannot be filed under insurance at this time, yet have shown success or obvious benefit in clinical trials.
The following indications are medically approved and can be filed with your insurance:
- Diabetic & Other Non-healing Wounds
- Air or Gas Embolism
- Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
- Skin Grafts or Flaps
- Crush Injury, Compartment Syndrome
- Decompression Sickness (“The Bends”)
- Enhancement of Healing in Chronic Wounds
- Thermal Burns
- Gas Gangrene
- Intracranial Abscess
- Osteomyelitis
- Radiation Injury
- Refractory Osteomyelitis
- Idiopathic Sudden Hearing Loss (Meniere’s Disease)
- Exceptional Anemia
- Avascular Necrosis

HBOT is also used for a variety of health conditions that are not yet covered by insurance, but which have shown success or obvious benefit in trials, such as:
- Athletic injury/ recovery/performance
- Cerebral Palsy
- Mild traumatic brain injury, including concussion
- Post concussive syndrome
- Peripheral neuropathy
- PTSD other neurological disorders
